Born into a family of photographers and graphic artists, Jay Colton’s (1953-2010) love and pursuit of photography began at an early age.
Colton began his career working as a photo editor for the agency Gamma Liaison. In 1981, he joined Time, Inc. as the associate picture editor of Money magazine before serving as special projects editor. Following Money, Colton joined TIME as associate photo editor, serving the magazine through 2007. Throughout his career in the magazine world and following, Colton dedicated his personal time to photographing his own projects, specializing in panoramic and poetic black and white prints.
Colton received numerous awards for his photography, including accolades from Picture of the Year (POY), American Photo, NPPA, SPD and a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators. He was the co-founder of the SP Photo Festival held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
